An image from a PowerPoint (yeah!) presentation I did last year in Cairo, Egypt.  I'll probably be adding a few more of my FIRST EVER powerpoint gig later...

RedBull Biplane

Design for a Red Bull stunt biplane. Inspired by the old mini-racers. You can't see the intake in this image, but a small jet engine allows for quick bursts. I'll get some better images online when I get this fellow fully painted.

bigCAT Tow Geometry

I designed a load for the bigCAT to pull. I began to think that the vehicle might also serve as a tow-truck. This is the back view of the vehicle. I haven't decided if I'll actually use this in my Extractor image, but I have it now. It'll serve as a good stand-in for later renders of the bigCAT in it's kinetic mode.

bigCAT textures

...and here are the textures. It's ready for the comp into my upcoming "Extractor" image...

bigCAT graphics

I layed out the UV's on the big surfaces to get something to gel visually in the paint. It helps me to imagine the paint when I'm modeling or designing. It keeps the form simple. I've overdone too many models and fought with them in design because I don't keep the graphic nature of the paint in mind. So here's the result of a quick slapping on of the body's paint. I leave the unpainted areas gray and matte so I can easily subtract them visually. Also, as promised the story of the vehicle unfolds...no pun, okay, it is...You can see the outriggers under the nose. Next time, I have those working.

CATsketch

Here's the sketch that got the bigCAT asset going. I did it on a sticky note, took a picture with the iPhone, then hit it with some hilites for form in SketchbookMobile. If you follow my facebook stuff, I call these "teeny-tinys".

bigCAT geometry

I've got a few images in the pipe that I'm trying to do in my spare time. This is an asset supporting an image of a lander. It'll be a foreground element. There's been a lot of paving going on in our area, and I've been gathering a ton of reference for this vehicle. It's purpose is to pull loads for very long distances over rough terrain. The front, glassed in area is a cabin for habitation during the trek. As the paint goes on, I'll update the "story"...

Cool Landing

A ship comes in for a landing over an ice field. More Cintiq work. It's great for sketching and laying in an idea. Unreal, actually. As for texturing a hard-surface model, I don't know. Got to try it one of these days. More custom brushes made for this one.

Photoshop

Dragons!

I was doing some work with dragons on a job and, well, it carries over. I'm on a kick right now to use my Cintiq more. It's small, maybe too small, but I'm going to fall in love with it if it kills me. I also am making a good number of custom brushes these days. Now if only I could organize them...

Luftbank Lambo

This is an old model that I rolled out of the garage. I promised myself I'd design a paintjob for it, and ended up finding that people actually race these things. So, off I went. The lines of this car really lent themselves well to angular stripes and bold colors, so pink and orange it was. I picked T-mobile and adidas as sponsors for that very reason...3 stripes and pink (think TourDeFrance). Never mind the two tire manufacturers...FIA, alright? Other sponsors were gotbluemilk.com (trackday photographer Dito Milian), Ritz-Carlton (why not? it's posh!), Bell&Ross Watches (love 'em), and Akrapovic exhaust (for Branko, my bud from Slovenia).

I started using Vue, too, for backgrounds. It's right powerful, and I'm happy with this as a first try. Bodypaint, Maya, and Photoshop. MentalRay for rendering.

Don't wreck it.

EgyptAir VTOL Shuttle

This was a quick project I did for a presentation in Egypt in 2011. It's a large VTOL shuttle that is used as a hop out of Dubai to Cairo and other touring/vaction destinations in the Middle East. Funded by the oil rich countries, it is a prototype vehicle being used to push the airline as a tourist option to sites like the Pyramids, not just "airport destinations".

cintiq01

Tried a Wacom Cintiq today. Gotta say, the thing may be the best $2k sketching device you can buy. Whatever that says. Photoshop.

iPhone sketch using SketchBook Mobile. Good app and place to keep you roughing in the major shapes first.

wild_hare

This is a cartoon for a trackday organizer I use called Keiwins@thetrack. For years their logo was an abstract rabbit on a bike from a shop Lance and Linda Keiwin opened called "Wild Hare Racing". Fun project. Pencil to black line art to Photoshop.

lamborghini murcielago_WIP

There's nothing quite like modeling a car. You gain a whole new appreciation for all the designer's effort in getting the shapes to flow together. I'm a big fan of Lamborghini's designs, so I gave the Murcielago a go.

Maya polygonal model with mental ray rendering. No textures yet. Maybe one day...
